Chromatic Stillness

The Artist’s Narrative and Intention

In the heart of the Arenal rainforest, I found a moment where the wild world seemed to hold its breath. My intention was to move beyond a simple bird portrait and instead capture the quiet harmony of a tanager perfectly aligned with its environment. I wanted to highlight the gentle relationship between the bird’s vibrant feathers and the soft, pastel tones of the forest fruit. This piece is a meditation on balance, showing that even in the dense jungle, there are spaces of absolute, soulful peace. I hope this work allows the viewer to feel the same quiet connection to the natural world that I experienced in that fleeting second.

The Photographic Moment and Atmosphere

The morning air was thick with mist when this tanager suddenly appeared, settling onto a branch of delicate berries. The colors of the bird and the fruit complemented each other with such grace that I felt compelled to capture it instantly. In that single moment of stillness, the rainforest provided a perfect, soulful composition that required no intervention.

Nikon Fieldcraft and Technical Execution

To capture this intimate scene without disturbing the subject, I relied on the Nikon Z 8 and its specialized bird tracking capabilities. Using the NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S lens, I was able to isolate the tanager and create a smooth, dreamlike background. This combination allowed me to nail the focus effortlessly, preserving the emotional weight of the encounter in this Exhibition-grade print.
